Have you ever felt like you’re running on a treadmill, constantly moving but getting nowhere?
That was me, before I discovered the life-changing impact of sabbaticals. In our fast-paced world, it’s all too easy to get caught up in the relentless pursuit of success and productivity. But when the hustle leads to burnout, a sabbatical becomes not just appealing but essential for our well-being and growth.
What is a Sabbatical?
A sabbatical is an extended break from your routine job, offering a chance for introspection, rejuvenation, and realignment of goals and values. In my personal journey, which I share in this video, I’ve experienced firsthand the profound effects of stepping away.
For over 15 years, I’ve been incorporating 2-3 month sabbaticals into my life. These breaks allowed me to reevaluate my life and career goals. Last year, my family and I embarked on a year-long sabbatical from the South of France to California. It wasn’t just a change of scenery; it was an opportunity to reconnect with my roots, and for me and my husband to reassess our career paths, shielding both of us from imminent burnout.
Busting the Myth
There’s a misconception that sabbaticals are exclusive to certain professions or those with financial flexibility. In reality, they are achievable with proper planning and a clear vision. They don’t necessarily require vast resources; they require a commitment to prioritize your well-being and personal growth. Our family sabbatical was purpose-driven. We aimed to connect my son with his American heritage and give us space to reevaluate our career aspirations. The journey began aboard the Queen Mary 2, offering us seven days of decompression and reflectio
The Benefits of a Sabbatical:
- Avoiding burnout
- Creating a better life/work balance
- Reflecting on past achievements and setbacks
- Sustaining motivation for long-term, challenging goals
- Cultivating personal interests and passions
Asking the Right Questions
- What were the highlights and low points of the past year(s)?
- What aspects of my life and career do I want to improve?
- What goals and creative projects align with my current stage in life?
- Which passions and interests do I wish to nurture?
Taking a sabbatical allows you to step back, gain perspective, and make informed decisions about your life’s direction. It’s a reminder that time, more than money, is a valuable asset in our journey towards fulfillment and happiness.

Good morning, Mundey
Yesterday I had a reading with Kelley Hunter, and when I shared with her my vision for living part time in the south of France, she thought of you.
To date I have only visited the south east, Cote d’Azur. I plan to return as soon as I am able, which realistically is probably in about a year. If there’s any way I can make it happen sooner I surely will.
My goal is to explore more of the south, particularly Provence, the little villages near to Marseilles and hopefully more. Focus on being near the sea…and in a fun, friendly community. A place to call home.
Putting it out there in the floativerse (as she shared, love that!)…
Would you be open to talking sometime? Curious, if yours is an area to include in my search and if you offer any kind of housing or know anyone that does, for starters. Or some ideas for a woman traveling solo for a focus, yet with the opportunity to experience living like a local as well as the flexibility to move about.
Aside from that, your work looks amazing! I will have a look and a listen.
Thank you.
Kelly
